PC Professor adds jobs; moves to a new, larger location

PC Professor, a company the BDB provided assistance to almost 17 years ago, and Workforce Alliance's top rated computer training company, is expanding due to increased demand for technical talent in South Florida.

PC Professor is headquartered in West Palm Beach, with training centers in West Palm Beach and Boca Raton.  The company is moving its headquarters location in early April to 6000 Okeechobee Boulevard. The new location is just east of the company's current location, but adds 10,000 square feet.

The move will provide space for 20 more staff members, ranging from contract, part-time and full-time professionals. The new jobs include Computer Repair Technicians, Webmasters, Cisco and Network Engineers, Computer Forensic Specialists, IT Projects Manager, Sales Coordinator, Search Engine Optimization Manager, Trainers, and Office Staff.

According to Howard Fellman, PC Professor’s President, “PC Professor dedicates every ounce of credit for our upcoming West Palm Beach expansion to the BDB”. “ It’s been almost 17 years since Kelly Smallridge and I toured the then-new Boca school and we have been appreciative of your help ever since” he added.

BDB "Behind the Gates" Success Story

The Business Development Board continues to pursue its new economic development strategy focused on recruiting corporate headquarters led by CEOs that have a second home in Palm Beach County.  In line with this strategy, the BDB facilitated another corporate headquarters to Palm Beach County called Liquid Cargo, Inc. relocating from Kearney, New Jersey. They will create 20 new jobs at an average salary of $60,000 and occupy a 3,000 s.f. facility in Riviera Beach.  The lease transaction was handled by Michael Feldman of Applefield Waxman, a BDB investor.

Liquid Cargo is a logistics company that transports a variety of bulk cargos including pharmaceuticals, petroleum products, industrial chemicals and general commodities.  Annual sales are in the range of $2.5 to $5 million.  They own 20 percent of the trucks in their nationwide fleet servicing 48 U.S. states and portions of Canada.

Company president Kevin Jackson had a home in Palm Beach Gardens prior to the decision to relocate headquarters here.

BDB to join Governor Scott on Business Development Mission to Spain

Brian Cartland, the BDB’s vice president of business recruitment, is accompanying Governor Rick Scott, and Enterprise Florida on a business development mission to Spain, Florida’s 34th largest trading partner at $793.6 million a year in trade. The mission will take place May 20-25 and is by invitation only.

Among Florida’s top exports to Spain are medical supplies, cars, aircraft and aircraft parts, and yachts and other vessels.

Mr. Cartland will work to attract more Spanish business investment to Palm Beach County.

Modernizing Medicine Expands into the Research Park at Florida Atlantic University

In partnership with Palm Beach County and the City of Boca Raton, The Business Development Board of Palm Beach County (BDB) announced that Modernizing Medicine, Inc., a software company that delivers IT solutions for small and medium-sized specialty medical practices, will more than double its space when it moves to a new 15,000 sq. ft. facility at the Research Park at Florida Atlantic University. The company currently has 60 employees and expects to add another 40 in the next twelve months.

“A strong reason for our selection of the Research Park is its relationship with FAU,” said Dan Cane, CEO of Modernizing Medicine. “Our product is computer software for medical practitioners and having access to both the FAU Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine and the FAU College of Engineering and Computer Science offers potential for joint development of interdisciplinary projects with FAU.”

The Business Development Board assisted the company with information on available grant and incentive programs and introduced the company to Workforce Alliance for assistance with recruitment and training programs. Through its introduction to the economic development programs of the City of Boca Raton, the company received a lease subsidy of $65,000.

Modernizing Medicine is a great company and we’re delighted it will expand its operations in Palm Beach County,” stated Kelly Smallridge, president and CEO of the Business Development Board. “The BDB has recently assisted several local companies to expand here and that’s good news for the County.”

“Modernizing Medicine is a perfect fit with the growing number of technology businesses that now call the Research Park home,” stated Andrew Duffell, president and CEO of the Research Park at Florida Atlantic University. “The opportunities for collaboration with other tenants and FAU are plentiful.”

Modernizing Medicine is relocating for the second time in a two year span. “At the rate we’re growing, we’ll need additional space before long,” commented Cane. “The availability of expansion space in the Research Park will easily facilitate our future growth.”

Leasing for the Research Park at Florida Atlantic University is provided by Keith O’Donnell, Senior Managing Director. Flagler Real Estate Services, LLC (www.Flaglerdev.com).

Take Advantage of the Best Employee Training Programs in the Nation

To stay competitive, your business needs workers with current skills and knowledge of new technologies. Florida offers training programs that can help your new or current employees upgrade their skills while saving you time and money. Florida's job training programs were rated #1 by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

The Quick Response Training (QRT) and Incumbent Worker Training (IWT) programs administered by Workforce Florida offer funding to support the customized employee training needs of eligible companies.

Quick Response Training

For QRT, the company may use in-house training, outside vendor training programs or a local educational entity to provide training. Reimbursable training expenses include: instructors'/trainers' wages, curriculum development, and textbooks/manuals. To be eligible for a QRT grant, a company must:

Palm Beach International Airport Named World's Second Busiest for Business Jets

BBA Aviation Plc (BBA), the world’s biggest provider of bases for business jets, plans to spend $300 million on U.S. acquisitions this year as demand for private planes in emerging markets remains in its infancy.

London-based BBA is focused on a U.S. market that provides 75 percent of sales, Chief Executive Officer Simon Pryce said, adding that emerging economies are too lacking in big companies and infrastructure to support extensive use of business jets.

“There are more planes on the ramp at Palm Beach on any given Saturday afternoon than there are in the whole of India and China,” Pryce said today in a telephone interview. “We will see lots and lots of growth in India and China and the other emerging markets, but from a very low base.”

Palm Beach International Airport, north of Miami, is the world’s second busiest for business jets, behind Teterboro, which serves New York City, according to the 2011 FBO Survey compiled by Forecast International for Aviation International News, while the U.S. market is almost 10 times larger even than that in Europe. That contrasts with trends in the airline industry, where Asia accounted for almost 31 percent of traffic in December, North America 27 percent and Europe 26 percent. Read More
