The South Florida Bioscience Consortium
South Florida Bioscience Consortium
In November 2002 a group of individuals and organizations from the three South Florida counties (Broward, Miami/Dade and Palm Beach) formed an initiative that has become known as the South Florida Bioscience Consortium. Its primary mission is to support this important industry sector by ensuring sufficient human and investment resources exist to encourage and support the commercialization of bioscience products and the development of the bioscience industry in South Florida.
Participation on the consortium crosses both private and public sectors and includes University of Miami, Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University, Nova Southeastern University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, private industry, the Broward Alliance, the Miami/Dade Beacon Council, Enterprise Development Corporation and the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County.
One-year goals of the consortium are (1) to develop a national/international marketing plan that will brand South Florida as a great place to relocate and expand bioscience companies and (2) to complete a research (S.W.O.T.) analysis to determine the region’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats as they relate to the bioscience industry.
Mel Rothberg of Rothberg Associates, Inc. is Chairman of the Consortium and Franklin Garcia-Godoy of Nova Southeastern University is Co-Chairman. Due to the geography of South Florida, alternating meetings will be via teleconference thus saving considerable driving time for consortium members.
