Urban Design Kilday Studios  (UDKS), one of Palm Beach County’s largest urban design, planning and landscape architecture firms, announced that it has added Bobby Powell, Jr. as a project manager. Powell will work out of the West Palm Beach office but also serves on the Florida House of Representatives in Tallahassee for District 88, making him the first AICP certified planner by the American Planning Association elected to the Florida legislature.Powell’s primary responsibilities at UDKS include processing and representation of land-use plan amendments, re-zonings, conditional use and special exceptions, variances and site plan approvals. In an admission that not all Florida high schoolers want to go to college, lawmakers are creating a three-track system where the diploma you earn depends on what you want to do after graduation.
A bill passed by both houses of the Legislature creates two new categories of diploma, in addition to the regular one students have received for years.

Florida Atlantic University’s Office of International Programs (OIP) has announced a new program titled “Pathway to Academic Readiness,” (PAR), providing conditional admission to FAU with intensive English training for four to 12 months for academically qualified international undergraduate students. PAR also is available to graduate students who meet academic requirements for their program of study but need additional language preparation in order to successfully complete their degree programs at FAU.

High school students from Palm Beach County Title I schools recently explored the marvelous aspects of the brain through hands-on activities with biomedical research scientists at “Neuroscience Saturday.” The all-day event, sponsored through a $25,000 grant by Quantum Foundation, was hosted by Scripps Florida, , the Jupiter campus of The Scripps Research Institute, and the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience.
