The Academic Leaders Council is an initiative to strengthen business and education partnerships in Palm Beach County. The Council is the first-of-its-kind in Palm Beach County and focuses on preserving and expanding the intellectual capital in the County, while ensuring that the curriculum taught in the classroom aligns with the needs of targeted industries that are growing in the County. 

Meeting Schedule:
Bi-Annually or as needed for special projects.

Criteria for Involvement:
Participation is restricted to Presidents of Palm Beach County’s colleges and universities and the Superintendent of the PBC School District. Specific meetings have focused on certain industries, in which CEOs will sit across the table and discuss industry needs.

This task force works to expand and strengthen the aviation/aerospace/engineering industries in Palm Beach County. To achieve growth, the task force leverages its relationships and seeks to mutually benefit from the strong business synergies developed through participation. The task force works to attract and retain complimentary businesses that will generate further cluster development, open new investment opportunities, and attract high quality jobs and technology into the PBC Aerospace sector.

Task Force Members’ Responsibilities:

  • Generate industry growth ideas
  • Identify current & future needs of both the industry and individual companies
  • Act as an “early warning” system by informing the BDB of A/A/E companies that may be considering leaving the county
  • Identify industry trends & networks that can be leveraged
  • Identify ways to build on individual strengths within the cluster
  • Facilitate communication & foster relationships
  • Act on cluster recommendations for growth opportunities
  • Plan and implement Annual Engineering Week Awards Banquet

Criteria for Involvement:
Participation is restricted to companies directly involved in the industries of aviation, aerospace and/or related engineering.

This task force works to ensure that Palm Beach County is widely recognized for its excellence in education and qualified workforce in order to attract relocation and retention projects.

Task Force Members’ Responsibilities:

  • Communicate the quality educational opportunities that exist in the county through PBCedu.org
  • Identify ways businesses can actively participate in the education system to improve the county’s economic competitiveness
  • Actively assist the BDB in executing education marketing projects and events

This task force helps to build the financial services industry in Palm Beach County.

Task Force Members’ Responsibilities:

  • Provide leads to the BDB of financial services firms that may be interested in establishing a presence in Palm Beach County
  • Assist the BDB in increasing and maintaining local, regional and national media attention related to business and financial services
  • Directly impact our presence at trade shows, conferences and social gatherings by introducing BDB personnel to principals, managing directors, and key decision makers
  • Serve as a support team for CEOs in the industry who are looking for testimonials from
    recent relocations and from those who have been operating in the county for some time

Criteria for Involvement:
Participation is limited to companies in the financial service industry.

This real estate task force meets at the BDB to discuss news related in the commercial and industrial real estate industry. An additional event is the BDB Real Estate Round Table, which keeps BDB members informed of the BDB’s recent current activity and new initiatives, as well as topics related to the commercial and industrial real estate industry. Meetings are hosted by BDB member real estate firms in various venues throughout the county.

Round Table Members’ Responsibilities:

  • Assist BDB staff in planning Roundtable agendas and selecting locations
  • Recruit guest presenters for Roundtables
  • Participate in Roundtable discussions on current market activity and industry trends

Meeting Schedule:
Quarterly from 8:30am to 9:30am at varying locations. 

Criteria for Involvement:
Meetings are primarily intended for commercial and industrial real estate professionals, architects, contractors, developers and engineers.

This task force helps to build the distribution and logistics industry in Palm Beach County.

Task Force Members’ Responsibilities:

  • Provide leads to the BDB of distribution/logistics companies that may be interested in establishing a presence in Palm Beach County
  • Assist the BDB in increasing and maintaining local, regional and national media attention related to distribution/logistics services
  • Directly impact our presence at trade shows, conferences and social gatherings by introducing BDB personnel to principals, managing directors, and key decision makers
  • Serve as a support team for keeping BDB updated on new distribution centers and transportation systems in the area.

This roundtable keeps BDB public sector stakeholders informed of the BDB’s recent and
current activity and new initiatives, as well as topics related to economic development in the county. 


Task Force Members’ Responsibilities:

  • Inform the group about economic development opportunities or concerns
  • Act as an “early warning” system by informing the BDB of companies that may be considering leaving the county
  • Facilitate communication & foster relationships
  • Actively participate in round table discussions
  • Bring discussion topics back to respective stakeholder groups for consideration as appropriate

Criteria for Involvement:
Meetings are limited to public and private sector entities such as municipalities, chambers of commerce and select private sector entities whose mission it is to provide economic development services.

This task force highlights the power of entrepreneurship in building a diverse and robust economy in Palm Beach County, spotlights successful entrepreneurs in BDB target industries, and promotes the many and varied resources available to the entrepreneur ecosystem.

Task Force Members’ Responsibilities:

  • Assist BDB staff with launching and keeping a current BDB microsite highlighting entrepreneur resources
  • Inform the BDB of entrepreneurial resources and success stories to spotlight
  • Plan and implement the annual Entrepreneur Luncheon
  • Recruit guest speakers for the luncheon
  • Generate ideas for promoting Palm Beach County’s entrepreneurial culture both inside and outside the county

Criteria for Involvement:
Task Force members must represent an organization that provides resources to entrepreneurs.

This task force serves as an advisory group regarding Palm Beach County’s life sciences and healthcare community. It analyzes the current status of the local life sciences industry cluster, identifies challenges to growing this industry, and recommends specific strategies for addressing these challenges to help Palm Beach County grow its current life sciences and healthcare cluster into a globally recognized hub.

Task Force Members’ Responsibilities:

  • Generate life sciences recruitment prospects
  • Develop a life sciences industry marketing strategy
  • Assist with updating life sciences industry marketing collateral including the BDB’s life science microsite and the Palm Beach County Life Sciences Assets Map
  • Assist in outreach to companies at trade shows
  • Identify current & future needs of both the industry and individual companies
  • Act as an “early warning” system by informing the BDB of life sciences companies that may be considering leaving the county
  • Identify ways to leverage industry trends & networks
  • Identify ways to build on individual strengths within the cluster
  • Facilitate communication & foster relationships
  • Disseminate the Palm Beach County Life Sciences Industry Study Report
  • Advocate for and act on Life Sciences Industry Study Report recommendations for growth opportunities

This task force serves as a group of leaders comprised of education institutions to implement the suggested action items from the Palm Beach County Workforce Analysis Study, a comprehensive analysis of the county’s labor market. Convened by the BDB, this group oversees the study’s implementation matrix.

Task Force Members’ Responsibilities:

  • Create new academic programs that will align with employer needs from the study’s recommendations
  • Make necessary connections to improve Palm Beach County’s workforce
  • Provide updates on new initiatives happening at each school
  • Support legistlation that provides proper resources for workforce development
  • Focus on much needed skills from elementary to high school
  • Develop articulation agreements between institutions and explore concurrent credit opportunities
  • Communicate to high school students the local mid-skill jobs available
  • Enhance the experiential learning opportunities for both students and teachers

Criteria for Involvement:
Participation is restricted to representatives from academic institutions, workforce boards, or related industries in Palm Beach County.

This program provides site selection consultants and executives interested in relocating or expanding businesses with a database of shovel ready sites in Palm Beach County derived from an established, consistent and credible process. The Shovel Ready Site criteria, application and review process are already established.

Task Force Members’ Responsibilities:

  • Market the program and sites to commercial and industrial real estate owners, brokers and agents in Palm Beach County
  • Review new or revised applications for the program
  • Vote on admittance of new applications into the program
  • Provide industry knowledge necessary for the growth and success of the program
  • Identify “shovel ready” potential sites and encourage them to apply to the program

Chair:

Meeting Schedule:
This committee meets as-needed for applications review or special updates and projects.

Criteria for Involvement: Participation is restricted to member company representatives in the commercial and industrial real estate development industries that: (1) currently have no commercial and/or industrial real estate holdings other than their primary office location; (2) have at least 10 years of experience in their field of the commercial and/or industrial real estate development industries; and (3) have at least five years of experience in fields affiliated with the commercial and/or industrial real estate development industries in the Palm Beach County market.
