As part of Comcast’s nationwide response to Coronavirus, the company is providing Xfinity Wi-Fi free for everyone. Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots across the country will be available to anyone who needs the service, including non-Xfinity internet subscribers.
For a map of Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots, visit www.xfinity.com/wifi. Once at a hotspot, customers should select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspots, and then launch a browser.
To turn on Xfinity Wi-Fi, select the time at the bottom right of your screen. Select "not connected". (If you see your Wi-Fi network name and a signal strength, your device is already connected to Wi-Fi). Turn on Wi-Fi. Your device will automatically look for available networks and show them to you in a list. Find the “xfinitywifi” network name (also called an SSID) in the list of available networks on your device and select it. When prompted, type in your network password and select "connect".
Once connected to the xfinitywifi network, launch your web browser to sign in to Xfinity Wi-Fi. You will be taken to the Xfinity Wi-Fi login page where you will be asked to enter your Xfinity email or username and password. Enter a friendly name for the device that you are signing in with (e.g. Jen’s Tablet) and click "Sign In".
After you successfully enter your information, you will be directed to the Xfinity Wi-Fi home page. From there, you can begin to browse the internet! At the end of each one-hour session, you will be prompted to log in again and use another one-hour pass.
Comcast is also providing its Internet Essentials package free for 60 days to new customers. Effective Monday, March 16, people in the community who are in need of internet service to participate in distance learning can take advantage of the offer.
To sign up for this service, customers can go to www.internetessentials.com. The accessible website includes the option to video chat with customer service agents in American Sign Language. There are also two dedicated phone numbers: 1-855-846-8376 for English, and 1-855-765-6995 for Spanish. There is an online application to complete, but the Internet Essentials application does NOT require a credit card or credit check.
Comcast will send all new customers a free self-installation kit that includes a cable modem with a Wi-Fi router. There will be no term contract or credit check and no shipping fee. After your first two free months expire, you can either cancel the service (which you can do at any time), or keep the service and continue as a regular paying Internet Essentials customer.
AT&T is continuing to offer affordable ways to connect, in response to the public health crisis. The company is offering two months of free service to new AT&T Access customers who order by April 30, 2020, and then $5 per month or $10 per month thereafter, depending on your speed. The company is expanding eligibility based on income, and to households participating in the National School Lunch Program/Head Start, in addition to waiving all home internet data overage fees
Sprint is supporting customers by providing unlimited data for 60 days to customers with metered data plans, giving 20 GB of free mobile hotspot to customers with hotspot-capable devices, and waiving per-minute toll charges for international long-distance calls from the U.S. to CDC-defined Level 3 countries.
The vast majority of customers on T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile plans already have unlimited talk, text, and data. T-Mobile Home Internet customers already have unlimited plans with no data caps or surcharges. The company also wants to ensure that all current T-Mobile customers on plans that currently have data, are provided the unlimited connectivity they need to learn and work.
• All current T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile customers will have unlimited smartphone data for the next 60 days (excluding roaming).
• Coming soon, the company is providing all T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile customers an additional 20GB of mobile hotspot/tethering service for the next 60 days.
• The company is working with its Lifeline partners to provide customers extra free data up to 5GB per month, over the next two months.
• The company is increasing the data allowance, at no extra charge, to schools and students using its EmpowerED digital learning program to ensure each participant has access to at least 20GB of data per month for the next 60 days.
